It was a night like tonight will be. Middle of winter and very cold. My family was eating dinner and we heard the banging on the metal water tank. Not sure why that was our colic call but every time one of our horses were sick, our horse Circus, would bang away on that tank and alert us of the sick horse even if it wasn't himself that was sick.

My pony Powder Puff was sick. It was 5 pm when we got started for the evening. My mother and I got out lawn chairs and sleeping bags and holed up in the shed to watch and wait. The vet (Dr Derwelis...sorry Dr Meddleton, you were just a kid at this time) came out time after time that evening.

Finally in the wee hours of the morning Dr D said to us that if he had to come out again it would be to put her down. My mom and I held each other and cried for what seemed like hours watching my poor pony slowly but surely die. She was so still and did not much more than lie there waiting.

We covered her with as many blankets as we could find because it was so cold. After what seemed like forever with no improvement my mother told me she was going inside to call the vet and I should say my goodbyes to my pony.

As my mother arose from her lawn chair. Circus walked up to Powder and did something......something I will never forget. He bit the holy piss out of my ponies butt!!!!!!!!! She got up and chased him, mad as hell. She was good as new after that for many years to come.

My horse Circus has so many stories and adventures and I thank his spirit for saving my pony. I also thank Caroline Stevenson for bringing him into my life....as well as many others.
