Recent studies have shown that Equine Cushing’s Disease is a neurodegenerative disease caused by oxidative damage to the neurons that supply the pituitary gland with dopamine. Pergolide helps to counter this by increasing the dopamine levels in the pituitary. Current recommendations include supplementation with Vitamin E as a potent anti-oxidant to help prevent or reduce the oxidative damage. If your horse is able to graze on pasture for several hours daily, he or she may be getting enough Vitamin E. Otherwise it is advisable to supplement with at least 3,000 IU of Vitamin E daily.

We have Vitamin E available in a high quality concentrated form that provides 3,000 IU per teaspoon. Please contact our office if you would like to start your horse on Vitamin E.
